NEW DELHI: A Delhi University graduate and his relative have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police at Bawana here on Monday in connection with the murder of their friend. According to the police, the accused -- Sumit Kumar (28) and Bijender Singh (24) -- kidnapped Deepak Mathur (28) at gunpoint, took him to a village in Rohtak and shot him dead. The body was recovered from a forest at Sampla in Rohtak, the police said. Deepak, a resident of Sector 8 in Rohini, had gone missing on March 14 from his residence along with his car. When he could not be traced for a fortnight, a case of abduction was registered at the Rohini police station and the anti-auto-theft squad of the Crime Branch was assigned the case. Acting on specific information, the police team laid a trap near Harevli Morh in Bawana and spotted a Ford Ikon approaching from the opposite direction. The car was stopped and both accused were arrested. Two country-made pistols and three live cartridges were seized, the police said. During interrogation, the two purportedly told the police that they used Deepak's Ford Ikon to smuggle liquor without his knowledge. When Deepak objected, they decided to kill him. They bought two country-made pistols from Aligarh in U.P. and shot him dead. Deepak, a commerce graduate from Delhi University, was living alone in his Rohini flat. His parents had died when he was only four and left behind an agricultural land worth crores. Sumit and Brijender found him to be an easy target and killed him, the police said.
