This Day That Age
Over 200 pilgrims returning from the Sri Rama Navami festival at Bhadrachalam were drowned in the Godavari on April 10 when two boats in which they were travelling capsized in the river. According to latest information received by the Inspector General of Police in Hyderabad, 117 of the dead were women, 65 men and 18 children. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. N. Sanjiva Reddi, told pressmen that the Government would order an enquiry into the accident. The State Education Minister, Mr. S.B.P. Pattabhirama Rao, would be visiting the scene of accident in order to organise relief measures. The District Superintendents of Police, East Godavari and Khammameth, are already at the scene of tragedy.
