`Ban conversion of farmlands'

Puducherry: P. Venkatachalapathy, coordinator Rajiv Yuva Kendra here has asserted that the Government should set up a satellite town by taking over barren and arid lands.

In a release here on Wednesday, he said that satellite town was needed, when congestion of urban population was becoming unbearable.

He said there was fast conversion of fertile farmlands into real estate and the Government should impose a ban on such conversions.
