KOCHI: The Common Entrance Examination (CEE) for engineering, medical and other professional courses, scheduled to begin on May 23, has put students in a quandary, Kerala Students Union (KSU) State president Hibi Eden has alleged. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Eden said in the past, the Government used to issue prospectus containing details of the nature of the entrance test, the fee structure and the reservation policies. This year's prospectus, he said, had none of these details. The State Government should clarify all these points, the KSU State president said. He alleged that the LDF Government was bent on destroying the self-financing education sector. The Minister for Education was going ahead with legal measures against the institutions without attempting to clear the uncertainty in the sector. The confusion might prove beneficial to the private education institutions in other States, the KSU State president said. He urged the State Government to clearly define the authority and jurisdiction of the P.A. Mohammed Admission Supervisory Committee. The committee, according to Mr. Eden, did not have the right to finalise the selection criteria or the reservation pattern. It had lost its relevance in the light of the High Court verdict, he said. The KSU wanted the Government to enforce Government fees in 50 per cent of `merit seats' after applying the reservation norms, Mr. Eden said. The KSU president said that the State committee of the organisation would be formed in a week.
