New Delhi: The Prem Bhatia Memorial Award for Excellence in Political Reporting for 2007 has been awarded to Pallavi Aiyar, The Hindu 's China correspondent, according to a press release from the Trust. Ms. Aiyar has been recognised for her consistently insightful coverage of China's transformation from a poor agrarian society into the world's fourth largest economy. The selection was made by a jury of senior editors and eminent public men, consisting of S. Nihal Singh (convenor), Inder Malhotra, Ambassador G. Parathasarthy, Sumit Chakravartty and Coomi Kapoor. Ms. Aiyar would be given the award at a function in New Delhi on May 8, 2007, where Professor Gowher Rizvi, Director, Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation, Harvard University will deliver the 12th Prem Bhatia Memorial Lecture. The Prem Bhatia Memorial Trust also announced that this year's award for the best reporting on the Environment had been given to Max Martin, a free-lance journalist, currently editing indiadisaster.org
