Cricket still the talk of the town

Cricket is still the talk of the town despite India's early exit from the World Cup

Bangalore: After early exit from the World Cup, is the talk of the town still about cricket? Most say no, some say yes, and this is usually followed by a tirade and then an analysis on what went wrong, what product endorsements by the cricketers cost the companies. And the game.

Souvik Chakraborty, photographer, says: "Whatever the Indian team is going through is not new and going out before the Super 8 stage is like adding insult to injury. I don't think friends will talk about cricket unless the media has some new revelations about Bob Woolmer's murder."

Parikshith Chethan, businessman, says, "I guess for now cricket will not be a part of our conversations. Average people will not want to be a part of the losing side. So, I guess they will be trying to forget what has happened even though cricket runs deep in our blood."

But some are still not over India's loss and say they talk about it only to comment on the team's effort. Abhishek Vijay, a student, says: "Yes, we do talk about it. It is only to ridicule the Indian cricket team."

Though most pubs and hotels are screening the match, it is usually only the first half of the match as pubs close by 11 p.m.

In TGIF, keychains are distributed during the match to bring in the cricket spirit and there are special offers on the drinks. The same with the four pubs owned by the BJN group (Hypnos, Tavern Inn, Indi Joe and Frangipani) where you can earn runs every time you visit one of these pubs and convert it to pints of beer, there is a special cricket menu and the visitors get to win prizes such as the Indian cricket team jersey and beer mugs. So in all, the spirit of cricket is never going to die.
