NEW DELHI: Having itself performed commendably in the field of education, the Delhi Government is now working on taking over all the Municipal Corporation of Delhi schools, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely announced in the State Assembly on Wednesday. Replying to a question, Mr. Lovely said a policy decision on the matter was under consideration. He said since the Delhi Government-run schools had performed well in the past, the issue of taking over all the MCD-run schools in the city was being discussed so that lakhs of children studying in them also stand to benefit. As of now, the MCD schools take up children up to Class V. Thereafter they have to anyway move to other schools. So the decision of the Delhi Government to take over the MCD schools would also help in providing continuance of education to all the MCD schools children. On the issue of age limit for admission in schools, the Minister clarified that while the lower age limit had been prescribed, there is no limit on the upper age limit and any school denying admission on the basis of upper age limit would invite action if there was a complaint against it. Answering other questions, he said the Directorate of Education was also providing vocational education in 17 different subjects at some of the schools. But he replied in the negative when asked of there was a plan to introduce Yoga as a subject in schools.
