Assembly adopts three Bills
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE:
The Legislative Assembly on Wednesday adopted the Karnataka Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill-2007, which not only provides for imprisonment of up to three years for those involved in grabbing of government land, but also envisages setting up of a special court for the speedy trial of the alleged incidents of land grabbing.
The special court, which will have the powers of civil court, is required to dispose of the case within six months as far as possible. The House adopted the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Taxation (Second Amendment) Bill 2007 which seeks to remove the lacuna in the Taxation Act in the wake of some of the transport operators paying lower taxes under the contract carriage norms by taking advantage of the lacuna in the Taxation Act.
The House also passed the Karnataka Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill 2007 replacing the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Ordinance, 2006 (Karnataka Ordinance 3 of 2006).
