SHIMLA: Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh launched the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Kangra district on Wednesday. The scheme was so far running in the two most backward districts of Chamba and Sirmaur. The Central Government has awarded the scheme for Mandi district also along with Kangra in the second phase. The scheme aims at providing at least a hundred days of employment to rural masses within a radius of five kilometres from their homes. The Chief Minister handed over the job cards to eligible persons during the formal launch in Nurpur constituency of Kangra district.
