KORAPUT: Definition of silence goes beyond speechlessness. While the western mind limits itself to speechlessness, Indian mind extends it to explore its relation to the ultimate -- divine. And if the characters in the plays of Nobel laureate Harold Pinter could understand this, as the Indian mind does, the direction of the final outcome of the plays would have been different. This critical presentation of Indian mind giving the metaphysical dimension to the works of Pinter had received wide appreciation in `Viva Pinter', the International conference on new modalities of writing in relation to the drama and screenplays of Harold Pinter, held in Lyon of France.
Wide appreciation
Chittaranjan Mishra, lecturer in English from Government Women's College in Jeypore of Koraput district, was the only Indian to have participated in the conference and was there to deliberate on the post-traumatic aesthetic of Pinter. On his return from Lyon, Dr. Mishra was felicitated in his college at Jeypore. His presentation had received wide appreciation and was regarded by the organizers as a new dimension offered to the Pinter criticism, he said. Dr. Mishra is doing research on Harold Pinter and has already translated many works of the Nobel laureate.
