Students' bodies retrieved from lake

TAMBARAM
: Firemen on Wednesday retrieved the bodies of two students, who drowned along with a friend, Sivamurugan (whose body was retrieved on Tuesday), in a lake in an abandoned quarry on Tuesday.
Firemen recovered the bodies of Arun Raj and Rajesh from the lake after a difficult operation lasting over three hours. The victims had gone along with three other friends to celebrate Rajesh's birthday on Tuesday. Firemen said the retrieval of was not only time-consuming but risky. The uneven formation of stones under the water could have caused serious injuries had they acted in a hurry. Police said several such incidents had been reported from waterbodies formed in abandoned quarries. Many of the victims were students.
Youth drowned
On Wednesday the body of a youth, around 25 years old, was found floating in a lake at an abandoned quarry in Meenambakkam. Police said the body was noticed near the firing range in the morning. They suspect he may have drowned more than a day ago.
