Green corps to hold eco summer camps

45-day-long event to begin on April 22 at 151 locations in the State


  • The summer camps will commence on the Earth Day
  • They will end on June 5, the World Environment Day

    Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh National Green Corps will conduct eco summer camps in association with Jawahar Bal Bhavan all over the State in 151 locations.

    The 45-day-long summer camps will commence on April 22, the Earth Day and end on June 5, World Environment Day.

    About 15,000 school children are expected to take part in the summer camps which will instil in them environmental awareness. While the Bal Bhavans and Bal Kendras will impart training to students in various crafts at 56 locations in the State, the APNGC's camps in 95 educational divisions will only concentrate on promotion of environment awareness, said W.G. Prasanna Kumar, Director, APNGC, and K. Ramachandra Reddy, Director, Jawahar Bal Bhavan.

    Environmental issues

    They told presspersons here on Wednesday that issues like biodiversity conservation, water conservation, waste management, land use planning would be covered in the summer camps.

    The camps would promote eco literacy talent through training in writing, speaking and cultural programmes.

    The summer camps would conduct programmes and competitions for children on Earth Day and World Environment Day.

    The APNGC would provide literature, audio cassettes and video CDs on environmental aspects.

    Nature trails in Andhra Pradesh Forest Academy, environmental film festival and visits to parks and places of environmental importance was also planned, Mr. Prasanna Kumar said.

    He said an orientation for the eco summer camp officials and camp in-charges would be held on April 11 and 12.

    For the Bal Bhavan camps the registration fee is Rs. 200, the ones conducted by APNGC are free.
