HYDERABAD: Yet another suicide attempt drama, this time from the top of an advertisement hoarding, was enacted in the State capital on Wednesday. Frustrated over failing to meet Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, a physically challenged person, Boya Nagabhushanam Naidu, 40, went up the hoarding at Necklace road rotary threatening to commit suicide. The nearly two-hour-long suicide attempt drama came to end with Naidu scaling down following requests of the police and Minister for Tourism J. Geetha Reddy. Unlike similar incidents earlier, the Saifabad police did not register any criminal case against Naidu and produced him before the Chief Minister. A resident of Enkopally village in Duvvur mandal, Naidu studied till 10th class and discontinued his studies for want of money. While his left leg was affected with polio, his wife was suffering from some muscular disease. His sister, Subbalaxmamma, 50, a widow, too has some health problem and is dependant on him. Naidu earlier worked as labourer but the money he earned was not adequate to feed his two children and extend medical assistance to his other family members. He said that he represented to Kadapa district Collector several times seeking employment opportunity. Along with his sister, Naidu set out to meet the Chief Minister and arrived at Kachiguda railway station by Venkatadri express on Monday. For the next two days, he tried in vain to meet the Chief Minister at the Secretariat. He also went to his camp-cum-residence at Somajiguda but there too he could not succeed. Around 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday, he went to Necklace road along with his sister. While she sat on the nearby lawn, Naidu scaled the 25-feet-long advertisement hoarding, sat on the top of it and started threatening to commit suicide even as his sister warned him against resorting to any extreme step. Alerted by passers-by, the Saifabad police, led by Sub-Inspector K. Satyanarayana, rushed to the spot. Tourism Minister J. Getha Reddy, who was proceeding to attend a Cabinet meeting, stopped by after seeing the crowd. She got down and pleaded with Naidu to come down assuring to extend all possible help. After much persuasion by the police and the Minister, Naidu agreed to come down. The police sent two labourers up the hoarding post, who brought down Naidu using ropes.
