Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a 32-year-old youth in connection with the murder of his 69-year-old father. Official sources identified the accused as Jyothi Kumar, son of Wilson who was fatally stabbed in front of his neighbour's house at Kanjiramkulam on February 16, 2004. The victim, who was stabbed on the throat and abdomen, had died at the Medical College Hospital on February 25. Wilson, deprived of the ability to speak due to his throat injury, could reveal only very little about his assailant. The Neyyatinkara police had registered a case of murder against Wilson's neighbour Wilfred and his son. Wilfred, a Jail Warden, and his son were arrested on the charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy on the basis of the statement given by the victim's son, Jyothi Kumar. The police case was that Wilfred and his son had financial dealings with Wilson and had stabbed him following a bitter quarrel. The father and son were remanded in judicial custody for a period of 53 days. Later, Jyothi Kumar moved the High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into his father's murder. According to sources, a CBI team from New Delhi arrested Jyothi Kumar from Kanjiramkulam on Wednesday evening. The suspect was likely to be produced before a magistrate court in Ernakulam on Thursday. The CBI was yet to reveal more about the case and also the evidence against the suspect.
