NEW DELHI: As the enforcement drive against traffic violations entered its third day on Wednesday, the number of violators prosecuted, licences punched and vehicles impounded all showed a marginal decline. On Wednesday the Delhi traffic police had prosecuted 3,973 violators, punched 990 licences, impounded 155 vehicles and levied a fine of Rs.18,74,000 by 2 p.m.. The total fine collected from violators since the drive began on Monday now stands at Rs.83,61,900. "We have the same manpower, but we are now changing priorities when it comes to the enforcement drive," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Qamar Ahmed. "There is better discipline on the roads now," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M. S. Upadhye. The people of Delhi are beginning to improve their road behaviour, he added. "Intersection discipline was the priority on Wednesday," said Mr. Ahmed. Violators were booked for improper parking, over-speeding at traffic signals, stopping beyond the stop-line and travelling on footboards. Tinted glasses on vehicle windows continued to be one of the most common violations. Driving without helmets, not wearing uniform and seat belt were the others.
