Complaint against Sachin Tendulkar

NEW DELHI: A social activist has lodged a complaint with the Mansarovar Park police here alleging that cricket star Sachin Tendulkar had dishonoured the National Flag during his recent visit to the West Indies for the World Cup.

No case has been registered by the police so far.

Subodh Jain lodged the complaint on Tuesday night on the basis of a report telecast by a Hindi television news channel showing a photograph of Tendulkar about to cut a Tricolour cake in the presence of the Indian High Commissioner to Jamaica at a function there.

The police said they had received the complaint and were seeking legal opinion.

Man from Chennai found dead in hotel

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Paharganj hotel room here on Wednesday evening. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

The man has been identified as Rehmatullah, a resident of Chennai. He was found dead in room No. 302 of Star View Hotel where he had checked in on April 7. He was last seen by the hotel staff on Tuesday evening. When he did not respond to repeated knocks on Wednesday evening, they called in the police. The police broke into the room and found the body.

Traffic pile-up leaves ten injured

NEW DELHI: At least 10 people were injured in an early morning six-vehicle pile-up in southwest Delhi even as the traffic police on Wednesday continued its crackdown against unruly motorists.

The incident happened in Naraina locality at around 6.30 a.m. after a speeding tanker lorry rammed into a car, triggering a series of collisions, police said. The accident involved the lorry and six cars.

CIC fines medical officer

NEW DELHI: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has imposed a penalty on a medical officer and public information officer (PIO) of a Government hospital here for delay in responding to an RTI application.

``It becomes quite clear that although the application of R K Sharma was received in the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital on July 14, 2006, the PIO has failed to identify any specific official with whom the information remained pending leading to delay,'' Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah said.

Two Tibetans on hunger strike

NEW DELHI: Two Tibetan activists, held in the Tihar jail here after being arrested during a protest in front of the Chinese Embassy, have started a hunger strike. Sibayan Raha and Migmar Tsering, both members of ``Friends of Tibet'', has been arrested during their April nine protest in front of the Embassy demanding the release of Tibetan Buddhism's second highest spiritual leader, the Panchen Lama.

Railway guard held on sodomy charges

NEW DELHI: A railway security guard was on Wednesday arrested on charges of sodomising an eight-year-old boy in a north Delhi locality.

Babulal was arrested after he was handed over to the police by locals, who thrashed him after the incident came to light.
