A question of spelling the name right

There is nothing more irritating than finding one's name misspelled and mispronounced.

Additional Director General of Police (Crimes) Kundan Singh Jangpangi would justify this.

But this senior Kerala cadre IPS officer of 1978 batch does not mind instructing Revenue officials and Police Department personnel as well as mediapersons to pronounce and spell his name correctly. He is camping in Kozhikode city in connection with the ongoing probe into the fire that broke out on Moideen Palli Road last week.

"I don't know whether my name is so unfamiliar in this region.

"I started my career as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Kannur. I was also Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kannur and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Crimes) in Kozhikode," says Mr. Jangpangi, who hails from Uttarakhand.

He says the younger generation might not know him as he was away for eight years on deputation with the Border Security Force (BSF).

"But people in Kannur still fondly remember me," he says.

Before being posted as ADGP (Crimes), Mr. Jangpangi served as IGP (Intelligence) for two years and IGP Armed Police Battalion for a year.

He also served as DIG in Kottayam; Superintendent of Police of Railways; SP in Ernakulam Rural; ASP in Ernakulam city and ASP in Munnar.
