Fond memories of S.M. Street etched in mind

SM Street and surroundings are etched not only in the memory of people in Kozhikode but also those outside the district. Even outsiders love this business centre. So when shops on Moidheen Palli Road went up in flames on April 5, many outside Kozhikode called up their friends or acquaintances here to enquire whether the blaze engulfed the whole SM Street. This anxiety was palpable as people from nearby Malappuram district and other far-off places rushed to Kozhikode in jeeps and other vehicles to see the trail of destruction.

Losses varied from person to person. For some, it was the loss of their lifetime savings and the loss of their dear ones for the others. For Vinod Kumar, whose Darshan Studio was gutted, it was the loss of historic moments that he carefully captured in his camera.
