CD seized from Samajwadi rally

Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW: After the Bharatiya Janata Party's controversial compact disc, it is the anonymous CD seized from a Samajwadi Party election rally which is creating a stir.

The CD, seized from Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday, reportedly contained inflammatory material relating to the hanging of the former Iraq President, Saddam Hussein. An FIR was lodged by the police against unnamed persons.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Kapil Sibal, Science and Technology Minister, described the SP and the BJP as two faces of the same coin and accused them of whipping up communal sentiments.

Demanding action against the makers of the CD, Mr. Sibal said the Congress had submitted a representation to the Election Commission. The issue should be investigated by the Commission and the case handed over to the CBI, if needed.

Mr. Sibal said the "CD politics" had exposed the real face of the BJP, which had no other issue in its kitty.

BJP vice-president Yashwant Sinha also demanded a CBI probe into the CD. It seemed the CD was sponsored by the SP as the former External Affairs Minister, K. Natwar Singh, currently campaigning for the party, was shown addressing a meeting.

On the Congress advertisement showing the former Presidents, Zakir Hussain and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, Mr. Sinha said the reference to Constitutional authorities was unlawful.
