New Delhi: "The exuberance of the Congress is rebounding on them. Wisdom has come to them a bit late," BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said to a question on the Congress' stand that it was not seeking de-recognition of his party on the CD issue. Mr. Prasad was briefing reporters here after the Election Commission reserved orders at the conclusion of arguments advanced by the BJP against Election Commissioner Navin Chawla participating in the proceedings in the CD case and by the complainants in the CD case the Congress, the BSP, the Jan Morcha and the CPI (M). When it was pointed out that the Congress and the CPI (M) had urged the Commission to pass administrative orders to stop circulation of the controversial CD, he said it was already withdrawn. The Commission, by an administrative order, had directed that first information reports be registered and it was complied with.
Mala fide: Sibal
Congress leader and Union Minister Kapil Sibal said the party opposed the BJP's petition against Mr. Chawla, saying it was a mala fide and diversionary tactic. Asked whether the Congress pressed for de-recognition of the BJP, he said, "Not till the investigation is complete. We have not made any demand that the BJP be immediately de-recognised." CPI(M) leader Nilotpal Basu said the CD was creating a communal atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh.
