G.O. on appointment hailed

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The Association of University Teachers (AUT) has welcomed the Sate Government's Order, dated March 12, 2007, permitting Heads of Departments to appoint on compassionate grounds the dependants of regular Government servants and teachers who die in harness. In a statement, the AUT vice president, Felicia, said that eligible dependents were required to make their application within three months from the date of the Government Order (on or before June 12, 2007) or within three years from the date of death of the Government servant, teacher, whichever is later, failing which they forfeit their claim to get an appointment. The AUT felt that this would negate the very purpose for which the order was issued because the necessary formalities such as obtaining a certificate from the tahsildar regarding the indigency of the family would take considerable time.
