Boy dies in cylinder blast

Kanpur: A five-year-old boy was killed when a gas cylinder exploded in a bulb factory being run in a house in Karrahi area of the district, police said here on Thursday. The incident that left Harsh dead and his grandfather Sharda Prasad seriously injured happened last night due to gas leakage, they said. Prasad took his grandson holding a candle in the room, where bulbs were manufactured, due to which the gas cylinder exploded resulting in immediate death of the child, they said. Prasad was admitted to the hospital with serious burn injuries and his condition was stated to be critical, they said.

Four killed as truck overturns

Mandla: Four labourers, including three women, were killed and 16 injured when a truck in which they were travelling overturned on Dori Dadar Road near here on Thursday, police said. The labourers were returning to Shringwani and Ghotkheda villages in Mandla district after working in fields in Damoh, when the truck overturned in Tikaria police station area this morning, they said.

Three dead

Pratapgarh: Three persons were killed when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a truck on the Pratapgarh-Allahabad road in Delhupur Bazar on Thursday. The motorcyclists were on their way to a wedding when they met with the accident. They were being rushed to Allahabad Medical College Hospital they succumbed to their injuries, police said.

Booked for rape

Hoshiarpur: Acting on directions of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC), police on Thursday registered a case against a youth of Dohar village for allegedly raping a poor woman last year. Officials said the accused Indu had allegedly raped the wife of one Dev Raj, with whose family he had strained relations. Indu allegedly demolished the wall of Dev Raj's house last year, following which Dev Raj's wife filed a complaint with police. On December 31 last year, Indu and two accomplices abducted Dev Raj's wife and took her to the banks of a nearby canal where he raped her. They then left her there and fled. She reported the matter to police on January 3.

However, police failed to take any action against the accused. Later, she reported the matter to the rights panel.

Man strangled

Muzaffarnagar: A man was allegedly strangled to death by his family members over a land dispute in the district on Thursday, police said. Jalvir (35), a farmer, was single and was allegedly killed by his family members at Tejalhera village here, they said. One person arrested in this connection, they said.

38 labourers freed

Sonepat: At least 38 labourers, including women and children, were freed on Thursday by police from a brick kiln at Shekhupura village about 30 km from here. The action followed a complaint made to the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleging that the owner of the brick kiln was harassing them.
