MUMBAI: The markets turned negative on Thursday ahead of the fourth quarter earnings season, with the Sensex dropping by 69 points on the back of weak global cues, despite smart recovery in IT counters. Metal counters suffered a sharp setback on heavy profit-booking as barring copper, other metal prices displayed a weak trend on the London Metal Exchange (LME) on Wednesday. The Sensex opened lower at 13127.86 and remained in negative terrain throughout the day moving in a range of 13160.15 and 13030.87 before ending at 13113.81, a net loss of 69.43 points. The S&P CNX Nifty also dipped by 32.80 points to 3829.85. Operators and retail investors decided to play safe by booking profits in key counters ahead of the announcement of fourth quarter working results by IT major Infosys Technologies on Friday. . PTI
