Dharmapuri: The Department of Forests has decided to distribute 5 lakh saplings to farmers in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts to increase the green cover. This would also help beat the heat in the coming months, said the Conservator of Forests Dharmapuri Circle, P.A. Mani, here on Thursday. An acute drought is prevailing in the Forest areas of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. Besides this insufficient rainfall during the successive southwest and northeast monsoons has triggered a severe water scarcity in the districts. Saplings including Pongan, Indian Cherry, Bamboo, Casuarina, Magilam, Peltophoreum, Neem, Mahagani, Illupai, Neer mathi, Peepul and Rain trees would be supplied to farmers to tackle water scarcity and to increase the green cover. Farmers can collect the saplings from the forest rangers in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, Mr. Mani added. Dharmapuri Range- 94426 33512, Palacode Range - 94433 22539, Hosur Range - 94426 33517, Krishnagiri Range - 94426 33518 and Uthangarai Range- 94426 33514.
