KOZHIKODE: A sum of Rs.25,000 was on Thursday disbursed by the City Merchants' Association as emergency assistance to K.P. Raju, a trader whose shop was gutted in the fire on Moideen Palli Road on April 5. The former president of the association C.E. Chakunny handed over the cheque for the amount to Mr. Raju, owner of Raja Home Appliances, at a programme here. The association demanded that the authorities make alternative arrangements for those traders whose premises were destroyed in the fire and could not carry on their respective trade. The traders also wanted the Government to provide medical assistance to those injured and financial aid to the family members of those killed in the fire.
