Indians return with 4 medals

New Delhi: Indian challenge at the Kings Cup boxing championships ended with a tally of three silver medals and one bronze after none of the finalists could repeat the fine display that they had put up from the opening day of the championships.

Host Thailand retained the team championship and Uzbekistan was the runner-up.

Jitender Kumar lost to local hero Somjit Jongjor in the 51 kg class. The Thai was later declared the `Best Boxer of the Championship'.

Narjit Singh was outpunched by Abutalipov Kanat of Kazakhstan when referee stopped the contest (RSC (OS) in their 54 kg division bout.

India's Olympian pugilist Vijender was outclassed by Asian Games gold medallist Rasulov Elshod of Uzbekistan in the 75 kg category.

Dinesh Kumar received the bronze medal for his semifinal appearance where he had lost to Abdurrahmanov Sherzod of Uzbekistan, the eventual winner in 81 kg category. — PTI
