VELLORE: The Micro Cellular Rubber chappal making unit, which MRF helped to install at Karigiri near Vellore is found satisfactory , Mr. Vinoo Mammen, Chairman and Managing Director, MRF, said here on Thursday. Participating at a function to inaugurate a rubber research lab in commemoration of its 50th anniversary at Schieffelin Institute of Health-Research and Leprosy Centre at Karigiri, Mr. Vinoo Mammen said the connection of MRF with Karigiri continued through the years. The gesture of the Schieffelin Leprosy Research and Training Centre to open a hall in the name of his father was most generous on the centre's part. He said some 50 years ago this unique effort was started in Karigiri. It was extremely fortunate that MRF got a chance to associate itself with the Karigiri initiative. The early pioneering days at Karigiri must have been extremely trying and difficult. It must be said to the credit of the members of that pioneering team that they had the tenacity to succeed. He said Dr. Paul Brand and many others, who associated with this initiative, had been in fact an inspiration to all of us. The job MRF undertook at Karigiri was itself a research effort for our young scientists at that time. Later, Mr. Vinoo Mammen released a brochure on micro cellular rubber chappal making unit. He also donated Rs.10 lakh to Schieffelin Institute of Health- Research and Leprosy Centre.
