State draws flak on Babli issue

Special Correspondent

ANANTAPUR: CPI State committee member K. Ramakrishna has condemned the Maharashtra police lathicharge on the TDP leaders at Babli site.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said the CPI had brought to the notice of the Government the activity at Babli one and half years ago.

But the Government neglected the issue, which precipitated into a major issue now.Mr. Ramakrishna accused the Government of being insensitive to unpleasant issues brought to light by opposition parties and the press. Irregularities were on the rise because the Government sent a signal that it would not respond to the press reports.

Mr. Ramakrishna took exception to TDP Kurnool District president taking up a padayatra against diversion of water to Anantapur district.

He said the high command should intervene and impose its State policy rather than allowing the Kurnool district to have its way.
