Deputy Tahsildar in ACB net

ADILABAD: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Thursday trapped Nazir Ahmed, a Deputy Tahsildar (Land aquisition) under Suddavagu-Mattadivagu projects while accepting illegal gratification of Rs. 20,000 from one Narayana of Umram village. According to Kiran Kumar, ACB CI, the official had demanded Rs. 20,000 for releasing the cheque regarding compensation for his land, which was aquired for Mattadivagu project. — Staff Reporter

BJP cadre stage protest

NIZAMABAD: BJP workers here on Thursday took out a rally protesting against the lathicharge on them by the Maharashtra police at Sagarouli village in Biloli taluq when they tried to proceed to Babli project site on Wednesday. The protesters later burnt the effigy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilas Rao Desmukh in front of the RTC bus depot. — Staff Reporter

Three killed in mishap

KURNOOL: Three persons died and five injured when an autorickshaw and an APSRTC bus collided at Gonegangla in Kurnool district. The bus, which was going to Adoni from Kurnool, hit the auto in the opposite direction. The deceased were identified as Subhan (40), Bathakamma (35) and Veeresamma (8). The injured were shifted to the hospital. -Special Correspondent

KADAPA: Residents of Beechuvaripalle Dalitawada in Vallur mandal staged dharna before Vallur tahsildar's office on Thursday, alleging acute drinking water scarcity since three months. -Staff Reporter

Protest rally

KADAPA: Teachers took out a rally from Nirmala High School, the spot valuation centre to the Collectorate, under aegis of Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations (JACTO), demanding that the Government concede their demands.

Rayalaseema West (Teachers) MLC P. Subba Reddy expressed support to the protesting teachers. Teachers would enforce a schools' bandh from Friday onwards in addition to boycott of SSC spot valuation, if the Government was adamant. -Staff Reporter

Vapour treatment plant

CHITTOOR: Collector S.S. Rawath inaugurated a vapour treatment plant constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 crores by Galla Foods Pvt. Ltd. at Rangampet in Puthalapattu mandal, 20 km from here on Thursday. Addressing a gathering of mango growers and exporters, he said that exporting mango fruits to Japan was a boon to mango farmers. -Correspondent

SBI ATM inaugurated

CHITTOOR: Collector S. S. Rawath inaugurated SBI ATM at Kanipakam in Irala mandal here on Thursday. MLA Galla Arunakumari inaugurated a SBI Bank branch. Deputy general manager Chandrasekhar, Tirupati, switched on the system while Kanipakam temple executive officer Sivaji inaugurated safe deposit lockers. -Correspondent

KURNOOL: TDP leader Bangi Anantaiah and his supporters staged a protest here on Wednesday denouncing the police action on TDP leaders at Babli dam site. He got his head tonsured and said the Government created a situation wherein the neighbouring State police resorted to lathicharge. -Special Correspondent

Dharna staged

Madanapalle: Twenty-five councillors gheraoed chairperson N. Ravi Kumar at a municipal council meet, as some financial items were included in the agenda of the Municipal Engineering Department without any notice, on April 12. The councillors staged a dharna in front of the main gate of the Council hall and raised slogans. - Correspondent

Parents booked for child marriage

KURNOOL: Officials initiated action against parents of bride and bridegroom on the charge of performing child marriage at Kallur Estate in the city on Thursday. According to reports, the parents of Chittemma, 15, and Ramudu, 17, performed marriage for the duo to please their grand father. The parents were asked to produce age proof certificates. — Special Correspondent

Entrance test for ST girl students

KADAPA: ST girl students should forward applications before April 25 for a Statewide entrance test slated on May 13 for admission into fifth class in Best Available Schools/English medium residential schools in 2007-08, District ST Welfare Officer R. More flights for Gulf sought

HYDERABAD: Rajya Sabha member P. Madhu has appealed to the Centre to operate more flights connecting Hyderabad with Gulf countries.

In a letter addressed to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, he said a lot of people from the State areworking in Gulf countries and Air India should be operating more flights from Hyderabad for their service. — Special Correspondent

Report on amenities in BC hostels sought

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court on Wednesday directed all district Collectors in the State to file a comprehensive report of the status of amenities available in the hostels run for students from the Backward Classes communities. The bench was passing this order in a writ petition wherein a letter written by Chandrahari, a student from Kurnool district, was taken on record. The bench was moved with the details given in the complaint and sought a report in two weeks. — Legal Correspondent

Lok Satta's yatra from tomorrow

KADAPA: Lok Satta will launch `Janarajakiya yatras' in all districts from April 14, its district coordinator P. Venugopal said on Thursday.

The yatras are aimed at enlightening people on the party's goals and ideology, with a view to changing the people's outlook towards politics, he told a press conference. — Staff Reporter

Shepherd booked for killing black buck

KURNOOL: A shepherd, identified as T. Nageshu, was booked under the provisions of the Wildlife Act for killing a black buck at N. Konthalapadu village under Orvakal police station limits in Kurnool district on Thursday. According to reports, the shepherd who was returning from the sheep flock saw a black buck and trapped it. He was caught while selling its meat in the village. — Special Correspondent

BIG 92.7 FM to be launched in Tirupati

HYDERABAD: BIG 92.7 FM, the radio initiative from Adlabs Films Private Limited, is all set to launch a new station at Tirupati shortly. It would be the first private FM station in the temple town.

Adlabs Films Chief Operating Officer Tarun Katilal said: "It is our endeavour to attract local audience. There will be high amount of interactivity on the station and we will be present across India from Srinagar to Trivandrum and Surat to Guwahati by mid-2007." — Staff Reporter
