Hailstorm causes damage to crops

Sangareddy: The hailstorm of ball sized ice pellets on Wednesday night has damaged vast tracts of standing crops in the Nangunoor and Chinnakodur mandals of the district.

According to unofficial estimates, the hailstones storm floored paddy in 5, 000 acres and damaged mango buds at Gantlamalyala, Kondamrajpalli, Ghanpur, Khata and Akkanapalli in Nagunoor mandal and Allipur, Macharam, Mailaram in Chinnakodur mandals. Siddipet legislator T. Harish Rao and S. Ramalinga Reddy, Dommata MLA, visited the affected villages on Thursday.

Later speaking to The Hindu over phone, Harish Rao said that crops in more than 10, 000 acres were damaged in the storm.
