Reconstituted panel to examine Bill

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Joint Select Committee to examine the Karnataka Unorganised Workers' Bill 2002 would be reconstituted, and it would examine the Bill in detail to incorporate changes to cover the widest possible number of unorganised labour, Labour and Minority Minister Iqbal M. Ansari said in the Legislative Council on Wednesday.

Mr. Ansari had initially proposed to withdraw the Bill, which covers over one crore people employed in 68 categories of unorganised livelihood sources.

He told the House that the Bill was being withdrawn in anticipation of the Central Bill.

However, members of the Congress, the main Opposition, said the Bill did not deserve to be withdrawn.
