SAI selections tomorrow

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) will conduct State-wide selections in badminton and gymnastics for the National Sports Talent Contest Scheme at V.P. Siddhartha Public School for the year 2007-08 on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. The candidates should be in the age group of 9 to 14 years. Qualified coaches would give training for selected candidates throughout the year. In addition, a stipend of Rs. 300 per month, a sports kit and exposure funds for participating in competitions would be given to the selected candidates. Interested candidates can report to SAI coaches at the V.P. Siddhartha Public School on said dates along with date of birth certificate issued from the school of study, according to a press release.

Commercial taxes collection up

Vijayawada-Suryapeta commercial taxes circle officials have collected the taxes nearly double the taxes collected in last year. According to Commercial Taxes Officer N. Ratnaraju the CT department has collected Rs.2210.48 lakhs during 2006-07 as against Rs. 1445.46 lakhs in 2005-06. Similarly, professional tax of Rs.64.47 lakhs was collected during 2006-07 compared to Rs.77.89 lakhs in 2005-06. A luxury tax of Rs. 5.04 lakhs were collected in 2006-07, while it was Rs.1.40 lakhs in2005-06, he said.

Plea to Congress workers

The APCC executive member Kolanukonda Shivaji has appealed to Congress activists of all wings to actively participate in Praja Patham programme, which will be organised in three phases starting from April 14. He said the first phase would be organised from April 14th to 21st in non-Indiramma villages and wards, while the second phase would be organised from April 23 to 30 in villages, which have been identified under Indiramma programme. The third phase will be organised from May 2 to 9.
