Visakhapatnam posts win

VISAKHAPATNAM: Host Visakhapatnam defeated Mormugao 58-37 in the inaugural match of the 26th all-India major ports basketball championship at the Port indoor stadium here on Friday.

V.V.S. Ramesh (16) and Dorababu (12) were the main scorers for Visakhapatnam while P.N.T. Selvina (20) waged a loan battle for the loser.

Tuticorin claimed the first gold in the men's and women's events of the 29th major ports athletics championship at the Port outdoor stadium.

M. Avinash Kumar and M. Muthu Mali won the 800m event for Tuticorin.

Jeevarathnam of Chennai and K.K. Joyson of Cochin claimed the men's silver and bronze medals respectively.

Chennai's V. Chithra won the women's shotput event. P. Lakshmi made it 1-2 for Chennai while Ch. Berndetta of Visakhapatnam claimed the third place. — Special Correspondent
