Panel to consult MCI, AICTE

KOCHI: The Fee Regulatory Committee, headed by the former judge P.A. Mohammed, will take a final decision on the fee structure for private medical and engineering colleges for this academic year after holding talks with the representatives of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

A sitting of the committee here on Friday decided to invite the representatives of both the bodies to the next meeting. The committee will hold detailed discussions with the representatives of the MCI and the AICTE on the estimate expenditure required for running private medical and engineering colleges in the country.

The committee will also collect details of the guidelines given by the Medical Council of India and the All India Council for Technical Education regarding the infrastructure and other facilities required on various campuses.

The salary structure of teachers and the non-teaching staff and the funds required for maintaining various facilities will also be taken into consideration before taking a final decision on the fee structure.

Private medical and engineering college managements have submitted different fee structure before the fee regulatory committee. Some of the medical college managements have submitted a fee structure ranging up to Rs.6 lakh a year. A few engineering college managements have quoted a fee structure of Rs.1 lakh a year.
