Dhulipala no more

GUNTUR: Veteran Telugu film actor Dhulipala Seetharama Sastry, who shot into fame for playing mythological roles, particularly that of Shakuni, died here on Friday morning after a prolonged illness. He was 86 and is survived by two sons. He was critically ill for the past 15 days.

Dhulipala, who was admitted to a private hospital here was born in 1921. He had worked in 300 movies, but took to `sanyas' in 2001 inspired by Swami Jayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham and set up Maruthi Ashram here. He stayed there till his end.

Both sons, Sivarama Krishna and Prasad, told reporters that Dhulipala would be buried in the ashram, as he wished. The veteran actor began his acting career at young age of 13, but took full-time to movies in 1961 with the film `Bheeshma'. His role as Shakuni in `Srikrishna Pandaveeyam', acting alongside NTR, brought him fame.

Condolences pour in

Meanwhile in Hyderabad, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has expressed grief at the death of Dhulipala, describing him as an actor who never compromised with values and set best standards.

Jnanpeeth awardee C. Narayan Reddy and Telugu University Vice-Chancellor A. Manjulata also condoled the death.
