MAAC launches a training division in city

  • Fee structure varies from Rs.50,000 to Rs.1,50,000
  • Demand for animators to increase to three lakhs by 2008

VISAKHAPATNAM: The animations industry in India is poised to grow by 1.5 billion dollars in the next three years according to a survey conducted by NASSCOM. Keeping this steep growth curve in mind, Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) launched its training division in the city on Friday.

With countries such as U.S, U.K., Canada and Japan outsourcing animation production jobs to Indian studios, the animation job sector will offer tremendous opportunities for students in the future.

    Programmes

A training unit of Maya 3D Animation Production studio founded by filmmaker Ketan Mehta and based in Mumbai, MAAC has institutes internationally in U.K., Singapore and Abu Dhabi. The present institute launched at Dwarakanagar in the city is its 53rd office in the country. The institute will offer eight-month to 18-month programmes in graphics, animation, visual effects and other select specialisation courses.

"The fee structure varies from Rs.50,000 to Rs.1,50,000," said general manager for Operations (South), Aruna Kumar. The institute offers a highly integrated curriculum in animation software designed by senior creative directors working in Maya Production studios.

"Education criteria is not given importance for entry as students at the institute have to prove their capabilities through their creative prowess," said general manager for Corporate Communications, Kingshuk Gupta.

Students should have preferably completed their basic +2 education to be considered eligible, he said.

"At present, there are only 10,000 to 15,000 good animators working in the country. This demand for animators is expected to increase to three-lakh by 2008," he said.
