Pranab Mukherjee
MOSCOW: Strategic partnership between India and Russia is unprecedented in its substance and endurance in the diplomatic record of independent India, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said. "The relations have been exemplary in the past and we are determined to further strengthen our strategic partnership in the years to come," Mr. Mukherjee told the Russian media in the run up to the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.Asked about the interaction among India, Russia and China, Mr. Mukherjee described it as a key format for advancing trilateral cooperation in the spheres of common interests. Triangular interaction reflected mutual understanding and trust among the three countries, he said. India-Russia relations have never been marred by any problems, let alone contradictions, and have always reflected a convergence of national interests, Russia's First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov said at a reception hosted by Indian Ambassador Kanwal Sibal to mark the 60th anniversary of India-Russia diplomatic relations on April 13. "It is exactly thanks to this convergence of interests that our relations have survived the difficult period of the 1990s and have acquired strategic dimension in the 21st century, he said. The diplomatic anniversary is being marked here with a string of events that include a gala concert of Indian artists, and a photo exhibition at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
