Relief for plantation workers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The plantation relief committee, which met here on Friday, decided to provide relief for the workers in the Mahavir Plantations at Bonakkad that reopened this week after a six-year-long labour dispute.

The meeting convened by Additional District Magistrate K.Surendran decided to provide essential items such as blankets and sheets for the workers. An amount of Rs.7 lakh will be released to the Deputy Director, Education to provide educational benefits for the children of the workers.

Children from the lower primary section to technical courses will be given educational assistance ranging from Rs.2,000 to Rs.10,000.

The convener informed the meeting that 436 blankets and sheets had been procured. It was also decided to invite Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan to distribute the assistance to the families.
