Tributes paid to Ambedkar

HOMAGE: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy paying tributes at the statue of B. R. Ambedkar on the occasion of the leader's birth anniversary in Puducherry on Saturday.

Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, accompanied by his colleagues and legislators ,paid floral tributes at the statue of B. R. Ambedkar on the occasion of the leader's birth anniversary in Bharathi Park here on Saturday. Pattali Makkal Katchi Members of Parliament M. Ramadoss (Puducherry) and E. Ponnusamy (Chidambaram) participated.

Legislators of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Communist party of India, and functionaries of the Vidudhalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party garlanded the leader's statue. M. Radha, leader of the Federation of Union Territory Unions of Reserved Employees, urged the Government to construct a dome over the statue. Members of various organisations championing the cause of Scheduled Castes and Tribes took out processions and garlanded the statue.

The Pattali Makkal Katchi held a seminar on "Dr Ambedkar, A Great Thinker".

The State council of the CPI celebrated the day as one dedicated to the protection of rights of the Dalits. President of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee P. Shanmugham paid homage by garlanding the portrait of Ambedkar at the party office.
