ERODE: Farmers may get good yield if they introduce drip irrigation in their field, said Collector T. Udaychandran recently at Mevani village near Gobichettipalayam where he conducted a mass contact day. The Collector said for installation of a drip system in an area, it would cost around Rs. 56,000. Of this, the Government would give 50 per cent subsidy. Further because of the use of this system, more extent of lands could be cultivated. For example, he said in the normal irrigation the sugarcane farmers may get 40 tonnes of yield and if the drip is introduced they may get about 70 tonnes in an acre. The Collector wanted the farmers to follow the modern methods and also use the organic farming system. He said several developments would be undertaken at Mevani village. Mr. Udaychandran received 191 petitions and promised that all the grievances would be redressed. He also distributed Rs 7.50 lakh worth of welfare assistance to 149 persons.
