CUTTACK: Noted English poet of the State Jayant Mohapatra received the prestigious "Bishuba Puraskar" at a function here on Mahabishuba day on Saturday. Eminent Hindi writer Mridula Garg presented the award to Mohapatra, which carries a cash award of Rs 30,000, a bronze plaque and a citation. The Prajatantra Prachar Samitee gives the award every year to eminent persons of the State for their outstanding contributions in the field of literature.
Prolific writer
Mohapatra was selected for the award for his contributions to the English literature. He has written over 1,000 poems in English and has currently switched to Oriya literature. Replying to the felicitations on Saturday, Mohapatra said to make a mark in the field of literature; a litterateur must also make some contributions in his mother tongue.
