TDP rakes up beedi mark row

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party will organise rallies in mandal and divisional headquarters in North Telangana on April 17 to oppose Centre's move to make it mandatory for beedi companies to print `skull and bone' danger mark on beedi bundles.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu said more than 7.5 lakh families' dependant on the beedi industry would be deprived of livelihood, if the mark was made mandatory from June this year.

He lamented that the State Government, which had promised to redress the problem after the Karimnagar by-election had not acted so far.

Mr. Naidu said he would participate in a huge rally in Metpally town on April 18 and also address a public meeting of beedi workers.

TDP will also organise a relay fast at Sriramsagar Project on April 25 against the proposed Babli project.
