Despite assurance, power cuts continue

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: On a day when the Capital was assured of no load-shedding in the days to come, depending on availability of power, the consumption of electricity rose to 3,137 MW and the shortfall hovered around 300 MW.

To meet the demand, Delhi had to overdraw over 300 MW from the Northern Grid, while its own power generation stood at 955 MW, of which 431MW came from the Badarpur Power Station, 103 from Gas Turbine Power Station, 66 MW from Indraprastha Power Station and 291 MW from Pragati Power and 65 units from Rajghat Power Station. Residents in most parts of the city, however, continued to face power cuts. "The situation in East Delhi remained bad. Not just were people in areas like Mayur Vihar, I. P. Extension, Vishwas Nagar and Preet Vihar subjected to power-cuts lasting two to three hours, the emergency rooms set up by the discoms refused to register our complaints," rued V.K. Arora, member of a Residents' Welfare Association in East Delhi.

"When we called to find out when electricity would be restored, we were told there was no data available and complaints cannot be processed," he said.

Residents in other parts of East Delhi complained that water supply in their area was affected by the load-shedding.
