Rakesh Tikait loses father's vote

Muzaffarnagar: Rakesh Tikait, son of Bharatiya Kisan Union chief Mahendra Singh Tikait, may have lost a precious vote. His father, who has remained ``apolitical'' and chosen not to vote in elections so far, was unable to cast his ballot in Sisoli polling centre of Khatauli Assembly constituency in this western Uttar Pradesh district on Friday.

``I was unable to vote despite having a photo identity card as my name did not figure in the voters' list,'' he told reporters at BKU headquarters Sisoli village near here on Saturday.

His son and BKU working president Rakesh recently launched the union's political wing, the Bharatiya Kisan Dal, and is contesting from Khatauli segment with the support of the Congress with which the BKD has a pre-poll pact. Polling was held on Friday during the second phase.
