Four injured in shop fire

NEW DELHI: Four men sustained serious burns in a fire that broke out in a chicken shop at Bara Hindu Rao here on Saturday.

According to the police, the fire broke out around noon and soon engulfed the whole shop. Two fire tenders took 30 minutes to put out the blaze. Riyazuddin (20), Jinnakatullah (18) and Mohammad Raju (14) were taken to LNJP Hospital, while Naushad (21) was admitted to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital. The condition of the was described by doctors as critical.

The shop owner, Shamiullah, has been arrested.

Nigerian national found injured

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old Nigerian was found injured on the Jamia Hamdard University campus here over the weekend.

According to the police, Mohammad da Aba bore an injury mark on his neck and has been admitted to Batra Hospital. It is not clear how he got injured, the police said.

He came to India on December 18, 2005, and took admission to a one-year computer course at NIIT.

Two allegedly held with drugs

NEW DELHI: Two persons have been arrested at Idgah Seemapuri here allegedly with 300 gm of charas.

Acting on a tip-off, Mohammad Sher Man and Indal were arrested when one of them was delivering the consignment to the other. Twenty-two sticks of charas weighing 300 gm were recovered from their possession, the police said.

Festival to save

NEW DELHI: An inter-school "Tiger Fest" for children of Delhi and Gurgaon was organised at Shri Ram School in Vasant Vihar here this past week. The festival offered children a platform to air their views and thoughts on saving tiger as well as contribute towards nature conservation.

Besides a skit competition, the children also participated in poster making and face painting.

NEW DELHI: A New Delhi Municipal Council employee has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the State Government on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 300 for issuing a death certificate. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police P. C. Hota, the Anti-Corruption Branch received a complaint from Nageshwar Das that an NDMC employee was demanding bribe to issue a death certificate. Nageshwar's wife had died of organ failure on January 9. Nageshwar applied for the death certificate after his wife's death at the Sarojini Nagar office of the NDMC, but the office-in-charge allegedly demanded bribe.

Woman arrested

NEW DELHI: A septuagenarian woman has been arrested by the police in North-West Delhi for allegedly cheating several persons through a group housing society promising them a flat.
