Over 30 injured in `jallikattu'

ATTUR: About 30 persons sustained injuries in the `jallikattu' held as a part of the Tamil New Year celebrations at Thammampatti near here on Saturday. Sources said a large number of people were watching the event, when a few bulls gored into the crowd. The injured were rushed to a private hospital.

Youth dies

A youth was killed and three others sustained injuries when a car lost control and hit a roadside tree in Sankagiri on Saturday night.

Police said Umashankar (29) of Namakkal and three of his friends were travelling in the car, when the accident occurred. He died on the spot. The injured have been admitted to Sankagiri Government Hospital.

Seven arrested

A team of Prohibition and Enforcement Wing personnel arrested seven persons on charges of brewing illicit liquor in Mettur recently.

Police said following information, the personnel raided Ramanpatti, Semmampatti and Edapamalikkadu in Kolathur block. They found seven persons brewing illicit liquor and arrested them.

Driver killed

The driver of a van was killed and 10 others were injured in a road accident in Omalur on Sunday.

Police said that the van, carrying members of two families from Tiruchi, was proceeding to Yercaud, when it lost control and hit a lorry. Van driver Kumar (28) died on the spot.

The injured were admitted to a private hospital here.
