NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday declared Rahul Gandhi as the leader of the future and urged the electors of Uttar Pradesh to give the Congress a chance to bring a change in their lives. Dr. Singh, who embarked on an election campaign in the State in Bijnore district, said his Government was prepared to bear the expense of educating Muslim children through Urdu medium. He also spoke of the steps being taken by his Government to improve the status of Muslims. Development decimated
Attacking the non-Congress governments in Uttar Pradesh, he said, during the last 15 years they managed to decimate all the development work done by the earlier Congress Governments and turned the State into one of the most backward ones. Exhorting the people to change the Government in Lucknow if they wanted to bring about a change in their lives, he advised them to distance themselves from the politics practised earlier. Just one chance
"Your future is in your midst. Yes, I am talking of Rahul Gandhi. He is braving it out for you. He is with you. He is your future. Just one chance is required for him and the Congress party to build a new Uttar Pradesh for you and your children. Just as 20 years ago Rajivji had taken steps to build a new India,'' he said, while addressing a public meeting at Afzalgarh.
