6 killed in accident near Chandragiri
Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI:
Tragedy struck a 20-member of group of quarry workers from Jagadalpur in Chhattisgarh on Sunday when the sand-laden lorry in which they were travelling skidded off the road at Nagulachervu village near Chandragiri, 20 km from here, killing five on the spot.
Another worker succumbed to the injuries shortly after admission to the Government General Hospital, Tirupati. The ill-fated labourers working in a sand quarry at Nagulachervu were reportedly on their way to the weekly shandy at Chandragiri
As fate would have it, sources said Sunday was the last day of their contract at the quarry and they were all set to leave for their village in Chhattisgarh on Monday. The tragedy occurred when the tipper's driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve. Among the dead persons were three women. Of the 12 admitted to hospital, the condition of some is reported to be critical.
