dated April 17, 1957: State film awards

The Central Awards Committee for Films has recommended the President's Gold Medal for "Kabuliwala," a Bengali picture, as the best film for the year 1956. The film is also to be awarded President's Silver Medal for the best film in Bengali. Bimal Roy Productions' documentary "Gotama the Buddha" has been recommended for President's Gold Medal as the best documentary. The Committee has also recommended "Bandhan" (Hindi) and "Tenali Ramakrishna" (Telugu) for all-India certificates of merit. The latter film has also been recommended for the President's Silver Medal for being the best film in Telugu. Certificates of merit are to be awarded to "Basant Bahar," (Hindi), "Mahakabi Girishchandra" and "Ek Din Ratre" (Bengali), "Edi Nijam" (Telugu), "Kula Deivam" (Tamil) and "Bhakta Vijay" (Kannada).
