Minister flags off bus services to Chennai

PUDUKOTTAI: The Union Minister of State for Home, S. Regupathy, flagged off the two ultra-deluxe bus services between Pudukottai and Chennai, here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the DMK regime had introduced several new routes and extended the existing services to benefit the people in remote villages. The Pudukottai division of the State Transport Corporation had already introduced 10 super deluxe services on the Pudukottai - Chennai sector.

The General Manager, TNSTC, Pudukottai, N. Vijayarajan, said that the ultra-deluxe would leave Pudukottai at 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. daily. In the return direction, they would leave Chennai at 8 a.m. and 10.30 p.m. The Pudukottai division would purchase 60 new buses during the current financial year.

It has also been planned to introduce 19 new routes this year. An intensive vigil on diesel economy has enhanced the fleet operational efficiency from 5.06 to 5.30 km per litre in the division. This had resulted in savings of Rs. 2 crore, he said.
